What Remains of a Father

After his marriage ends, a devoted father expects the divorce to change his family.

He never expects it to cost him his children.

At first, the distance from his two teenagers comes slowly—missed visits, unanswered messages, conversations that don’t feel quite the same. Then the distance becomes silence. Confused and increasingly desperate to understand what is happening, he begins keeping a record: every visit, every message, every small proof that he is still the father he believes himself to be.

The record is meant to keep him clear-headed. It becomes something else: the account he reaches for when he needs to remember who he is, and the ledger that quietly starts deciding what he is willing to see.

As his record grows, certainty becomes harder to hold onto. What he remembers as devotion may look different from the other side, and the truth becomes more complicated with every page.

What Remains of a Father is a psychologically layered novel of fatherhood, estrangement, loss, and self-justification, told through the eyes of a man watching his relationship with his children disappear while struggling to understand why.

It asks a question its narrator cannot answer for the reader: not whether he is telling the truth, but whether the truth he is telling still means what it did fifty pages ago.

Some families share a house.

Others share a silence.

What remains is what we choose

to remember and what we don't.
